Beaver Oktoberfest

1st full weekend in October
The annual Beaver Oktoberfest is a fun filled festival celebrates the German heritage of this southern Ohio town. Brats and sauerkraut are just a sampling of the scrumptious offering from this ethnic festival with a fun filled family atmosphere. Attraction include an indoor craft show, antique and kiddie tractor pull, horseshoe pitching contests, 3 on 3 basketball, Queens' tea, live entertainment, home made food, and much more. The festivities are topped off with a large parade on the final day.

Dogwood Festival

Last full weekend in April
Event features exhibits highlighting old-fashioned arts and crafts, antique car show, bike show, cyclists Dogwood Tour, chain saw skill, fiddle and banjo contests, pie eating contest, horseshoe contests, band concerts, and lots of good old-fashioned food. Heritage
Barnes Home
1832 Wakefield Mound Road, Piketon
The Barnes Home was initially built in 1803. Both it and the Sargent Home to the north were positioned to overlook Pike County's most elaborate Indian earthworks. In front of the Barnes Home lay the Barnes Works, a complex arrangement of geometric mounds. In 1848 the Barnes and Sargent families hosted Abraham Lincoln, then a congressman, who came to view the ancient earthworks, as well as to network with supporters. The last passenger pigeon ever seen in the wild waas shot near the house on March 22, 1900.

Eager Inn
Junction of Pike Lake Road and Morgan's Fork Road
This inn was the first stone inn built in Ohio to support overland travel and was built along the Zane Trace trail around 1797. Serving as an inn until 1870, it was one of two stone inns build at 20-mile intervals on the segment of the trail between Chillicothe and Maysville, KY.

The Emmitt House

James Emmit's crowning achievement still stands today as a centerpiece of the town he was so influencial in building. Created in 1861 as one of the finest hotels of its time, the Emmitt House of today stakes its claim as one of the finest, award-winning restaurants in southern Ohio with its incredible selection of steaks, fine wines and much more. In fact, the Emmitt House began 2005 by being named "Best of Ohio's Restaurants 2005" by Midwest Foodservice Magazine.
Friendly Grove, Home of Robert Lucas
Zahns Corner Road, Piketon
A prominent local figure, Lucas became an Ohio Senator, Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, presided over the 1832 Democratic National Convention, and ultimately was chosen as Governor of Ohio on two separate occasions.

This historic church building has never closed since being built in the 1800s.

Evidences of Indian inhabitants of the area can be seen at this location.
The Ohio-Erie Canal
Along State Route 104
This well-known mode of transportation had an immediate and lasting impact on Pike County, Waverly in particular. Lasting for 70 years before being replaced by other forms of transportation, the canal's remnants are still visible at Waverly's Canal park and areas alongside Ohio 104 between Waverly and Jasper. A bell from one of the first boats to travel into Waverly - the "Governor Worthington" - is on display at the Pike Heritage Museum.
Pike County Courthouse
East Second Street, Waverly
Efforts by James Emmitt and other Waverly businessmen to move the county seat from Piketon to Waverly paid dividends in the election of 1861. Following a disputed election, the courthouse was moved to Waverly's Second Street where it housed county government offices until the recent opening of the Pike County Government Center.
First Pike County Courthouse

Built in 1844, this building served as the hub of county government until the 1860s. In 1861, Piketon lost a bitter political struggle against James Emmitt and others that ultimately led to the courthouse being moved to Waverly.
Pike Heritage Museum

Learn about Pike County's past and see relics from different eras at this museum housed in the former German Evangelical & Reformed Church, build in 1859.
The museum is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, while tours at other times can be arranged by calling.

Scioto Valley Railroad House
339 Robin Road in Waverly near Bristol Village
The Scioto Valley Railroad Round House is enjoyed by adults and children alike. All shapes and sizes of model trains run throughout the house and outside in warm weather. Visitors can watch the trains zoom by and view various train paraphernalia from a various location across the United States.
Railroad house is open from 1-3 pm on Monday only but will open for group or tours.

Underground Railroad
Old Candle Factory, Piketon
This marker represents part of Pike County's Underground Railroad heritage and will complete the Ohio River to Lake Erie Progect begun in 2003.
Unknown Civil War Soldier's Grave
Pike Lake State Park, Bainbridge
A solitary headstone, at the base of a large oak tree below the dam, is a reminder of a life surrendered in Pike County during the Civil War. Wounded and unconscious when he was found, the Union soldier never revived to reveal his name, unit or hometown.

Outdoor Activities
Big Beaver Creek Golf Club

Recently named one of the top 100 "Must Play Courses of Ohio" by Golf Styles Ohio Magazine, Big Beaver Creek Golf Club features bent grass tees, greens, fairways, and offers four sets of tees from which to choose. Over 7000 yards of greenery lie in front of golfers challenging their skills from the back tees. Golfers can also look forward to taking on the course's historic signature 14th hole. Brush Creek State Forest
Originally part of Shawnee State Forest, this forest was established in 1928 with the acquisition of 285 acres. Today, it covers 12,749 acres in Pike, Scioto, and Adams Counties with 12 miles of bridle trails and 3 miles of hiking trails.
It is open to visitors between the hours of 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. daily, though legal campers, hunters, and anglers may be present during other hours.
Buckeye Trail
For nearly 1444 miles, the Buckeye Trail winds around Ohio, reaching into every corner of the state, including Pike County. From a beachhead on Lake Erie near Cleveland, to an hilltop overlooking the Ohio River in Cincinnati, a hiker can experience a little of all that Ohio has to offer.

Cave Lake Center for Community Leadership

Ohio's Most Perfect Tree
St. Rt. 335 South, Stockdale
Ohio's Most Perfect Tree, a hard maple, is estimated to be a little over 200 years old. The tree can be viewed from a drive off alongside of St. Rt. 335 South just 3 miles off of St. Rt. 32 in Pike County. Though no written documentation is available, all residents in the area and local historians attest to its authenticity. The former owner of the property recalled the information being a part of the curriculum in his school books in the 1920's. The property was recently donated as a nature conservancy by the famlilies' living heirs in order to preserve the tree and its surroundings.
On scenic St. Rt.335, just 3 -1/2 miles South of where St.Rt.335 intersects with St. Rt.32 in Pike County.

Pike Lake Forest and State Park

Covering 11,961 acres in Pike and Highland Counties, this forest is home to Pike Lake State Park, It provides 33 miles of bridle trails and 15 miles of all-purpose vehicle trails for those who want to get into the heart of the forest. Scioto Trail State Forest
Reaching into Pike County from neighboring Ross County, this forest covers nearly 9,400 acres and offers some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable during the fall and winter. For the outdoor adventurer, the forest offers 26 miles of combined bridle and mountain bike trails, as well as a one-mile hiking trail. The forest is also home to Scioto Trail State Park.

Wayne National Forest
This forest covers 230,000 acres in southeastern Ohio, extending all the way over to Marietta and down to Ironton. Hikers are welcome to use the forest trails year round, but the trails are closed to horses, mountain bikes, and off-road vehicles from mid-December through mid-April each year. A permit system (with varying fees) is also in place for these uses requiring all trail users (with the exception of hikers) to buy a daily, three-day, or annual trail permit.
