National Geographic will bring visitors to Pike County

The National Geographic Society embarked upon a project to create an Appalachian Driving Trails Map. This map would feature trails from each of the thirteen states within the Appalachian Mountain range encompassing regions from New York to Mississippi. Two of these trails are the Appalachian Adventure Trail in Pike, Jackson, Meigs, Vinton and Athens counties (a pilot project initiated by the ARC), and the Clothesline of Quilts Trail (see Pike's Patches Quilt Barn Trail) in southern Ohio that has already garnered national attention. For more information, see the [ Press Release ].

Pike County Included in TWO National Geographic Trails

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Tourism Council has been working on a project in partnership with the National Geographic Society (NGS) to create a driving trail map and an interactive website to support the marketing of those trails. There were a total of 28 trails from thirteen states that were chosen by National Geographic to be included on this map. Chosen were two trails inside Ohio and two trails that include Ohio as multi-state trails. These trails include the Ohio Clothesline of Quilts stretching across southern Ohio, and The Appalachian Adventure Trail which was an ARC pilot project encompassing the distressed counties in Ohio, The other two trails, which are multi-state trails, are the Ohio River National Scenic Byway and the National Road. The ARC has agreed to fund and have hired a company to build a website that will support the trail map's release which will be in the April issue of National Geographic Traveler nationwide to both subscribers and newsstands. That website will have direct links to our website! We are excited to have been included in this exciting project.
